Find your school district
The district you attended during elementary and middle school. If you moved, contact multiple districts.
Submit a FERPA request
You have the legal right to your complete educational records. Ask for your "complete permanent file" — not just transcripts.
Request state archives
Submit a FOIA request to your state's Department of Education for records related to gifted/talented screening programs from the 1970s–1990s.
Look for redactions
Blacked-out sections, missing date ranges, or references to testing programs you don't remember. Redactions in a child's school file are not normal.
